Unit 4: Assignment 1: Magazine Analysis, Teacher Assessment

 This is The feedback that I got from Miss Connell for my Magazine Presentation.
 I know that I need to include more information about the target audience to show my understanding of it.
I Have to have more pictures to support what I'm saying and a much clear layout I will all do this in my second draft of this presentation.

Our task was to do a presentation on 3 different magazines and in each magazine use PASCOE to help to do the analysis which is:
- Purpose - Audience - Style - Content - Effect

1. What is the name of the magazine and what is its overall purpose? How do you know this?
a) Why do you think the magazine gave it the name that it has? What about the logo design?
2. Who is the target audience of the magazine? How do you know this?
a) Consider details of target audience: age, gender, ethnicity, interests/hobbies, values, attitudes, lifestyle, social status, income, consumer behaviour etc.)
3. What are your comments about the overall style of the magazine?
4. What is the content of the magazine? (what kinds of things do they feature or write about?)
5. How do they organise the magazine? What are your comments about the layout?  (consider, design, shapes/colours, font style, text boxes, bullet points, titles etc)
6. What is the effect of the magazine on the audience? (consider emotions)

Introduction of Unit 4

Commission making a magazine for our client ( Convent of Jesus and Mary language College)
We have 11 learning objectives.
This task is done in group work but mostly individually.
As a group we have to agree on a vision on the news paper like:

  • Design
  • Theme
  • Context
Individually I have to keep minutes of the meetings, log and also blogging, I have to have my own research, take pictures of the meetings - get different ways to explore - always use brief bullet point for the log.


The First L.O 1 should be about research and get other examples of commission.
L.O 2 The brief that is the task we need to do.
L.O 3 Meeting the client and write up the minutes also keep a log
L.O 4 Researching and generating ideas means that we need to have:

  • Notes
  • Mind maps - brainstorming
  • Sketches
L.O 5 Investigating Target Audience
- evidence
- talking to schools girls of what they want to see in the school newspaper
- also if we want to do questionnaires 
(always keep resources)
L.O 6 Selecting appropriate ideas
- mostly from drafts
L.O 7 Budget ( work out how much would it cost)
L.O 8 Pitching a proposal - showing drafts to the clients
L.O 9 Pre- production : -list of materials that will go on the newspaper
